I meet with Sherry twice weekly for individual coaching and meet a friend for a more general workout 3 times per week.

Julie’s long term health and fitness goals

I want to stay young as possible for as long as possible!

Sherry is fun to work with and I look forward to our sessions.

How exercise has changed her life

Many small aches and pains have disappeared:  plantar fasciitis, mild vertigo, shoulder pain, etc.

Why Julie enjoys training at Balance for Life

Many things –- Sherry of course; plus I love the clean environment of the center.

Laurie *

Laurie has been coming to Balance For Life and is working twice a week to improve her flexibility and work on her strength. Laurie has made exercise a part of her weekly routine and continues to see success.  Laurie has lost 15 pound to date and looks and feels amazing!  We are very proud of all of Laurie’s hard work and dedication.

When we first met Laurie her initial goals were to improve her flexibility and work on her strength.  She also wanted to increase her range of motion and get into a good exercise routine.  Laurie’s long term goals are to lose some more weight and continue to gain strength & flexibility.

Seeing her progress is what keeps Laurie motivated.  She also has a son, who is at marine boot camp and he inspires her to keep pushing. Laurie figures if he can go through what he is, she can do her part to stay healthy.

From Julie - Owner/Trainer: Lani is an amazing woman. I can remember the first time I spoke to her about training at Balance for Life over 3 years ago. She told me she has MS and was interested in getting stronger to be able to continue to live independently and confidently. I began training Lani in 2009. She started training with Sandra in 2011. Lani has made such huge progress in that amount of time, it is hard to summarize into words, but I will try. She has increased her range of motion and her strength. When we began, her core was very weak; she had a hard time maintaining an upright position when out of her chair. As compared to now, her posture is much straighter and her core is so strong, she is able to be upright and not only upright but being able to do other challenging exercises in that position. We have utilized all of the equipment in the studio including but not limited to the Nustep for cardio, many of the strength machines such as cable crossover, functional trainer, leg extension/leg curl and the pilates equipment (reformer, Cadillac, chair), BOSU and more. She is always excited to try new things. She is so friendly to everyone in the studio. She loves to get to know other clients and staff. She has a memory of steal. She remembers every persons name even if you only told her your name once. I am excited to have the privilege to work with Lani and I hope those of you reading this have the privilege to meet her. Her spirit will inspire you as she inspires me each time I train her.

Melinda *

About Melinda:

Since starting at BFL, Melinda has lost overall of 23+ inches on her body, lost over 45 pounds and has dropped 4 sizes.

Her initial goals: Melinda started at BFL in June of 2011. Her initial goals were to; lose weight, drop blood sugar levels, decrease stress and increase her energy. Melinda was looking for some assistance in accountability and motivation. She wants to be healthy and active.

How often she exercises: Melinda began her training with a trainer, twice weekly for an hour. She started with light weight training and emphasis on cardio-vascular endurance. Melinda has now branched out to working with a trainer, once weekly, with emphasis on high intensity training, long durations of exercise with short rest periods, she is also taking higher intensity group classes and running/walking three to four times per week.

In her words:
How has working with your trainer helped with your success?
Working with a Personal Trainer made working out approachable. They challenged me with difficult, yet do-able exercises that helped me gradually improve my fitness in almost every way. They also make exercising fun and educational. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge from them that helps me make better choices about food and exercise.

What have you done to reach your goals and what is now your current exercise routine? I did personal training 2x/wk for 60 min sessions for 3 months starting in June of 2011 and then switched to 2x/wk for 30 min sessions for 12 months until June of 2012. I started attending the Wednesday night group fitness class at BFL every week in January of 2012 and still continue to take that weekly. I also do strength training once per week on my own, and I’m using the Couch to 5K program to teach myself how to run, which I do 3-4 times per week.

What are your long term health and fitness goals?
I’d like to attain a healthy body weight and find a way to integrate life-long fitness routines into my daily life.

What keeps you motivated?
I want to be healthy so that I can live a long and fulfilling life. I like the way I feel when I eat right and work out, so that reminding me of how good that feels also helps. My husband and friends are a huge source of encouragement and support as I continue my journey.

What are some changes in your life because of exercise?  I’ve lost 45 lbs and many inches. My blood sugar levels are back in the normal range. I can run over two miles now, which I never thought possible - I couldn’t even run a mile when I was in high school! I have more energy!

Why do you enjoy training at Balance for Life Fitness Center?  I love how welcoming and understanding the staff is at BFL. I have never felt judged – only supported and encouraged. I think the staff and the clients are here for the “right” reasons – to get and stay healthy – which makes BFL a great place to be!

Angie's List Review *

Description of Experience:
I'm a chronic exercise dropout and thought personal pilates instruction might be what I needed to establish a routine I can stick to. The consultation was free and included a sample pilates workout (they also do regular personal training, and classes). I work with Candace and she has done a wonderful job building a routine that works for me.
Member Comments:
I love the personal attention. The quality of the workout is much better that what I got on my on at home or in a big box gym. I can feel myself getting stronger without a lot of the next day muscle soreness and stiffness and I'm not worried about injuring myself. Injuries have been a problem in the past for me.
I also love that they have personal shower/changing rooms. The facilities are clean and the staff are very friendly. Julie, the owner, took the time to introduce herself to me even though I'm working with a different trainer.

"I just had my first beginner Pilates reformer class yesterday and I wanted to let you know how impressed I was with your facility and the people there.  I can see that a lot of thought has gone into making it a comfortable and functional place.  The person who greeted me at the desk and gave me a tour was exceedingly gracious and thorough.  Coming from a background of one of those open-24-hour-day gyms with minimal thoughts to warmth and human contact, I really appreciated the experience.  You guys are an excellent find!"

“Wow...I never thought a 30- minute workout could be so effective yet
enjoyable. I am so impressed with Sandra's professionalism and her constant
positive reinforcement. Signing up for personal training sessions is the
best investment I've made in myself for a very long time. Also, please thank Susy for my first massage! Not only was it relaxing and healing, but the oil helped sooth my winter-dry skin. You have created a uniquely personal and effective work-out environment!

"Julie, I wanted to let you know what a great trainer Jamie is and how thankful I am that you suggested her. She has provided me with a great diversity of exercises each week that increased in challenge, while still understanding some restrictions I had. Jamie has the right balance between pushing me to improve without impacting my ability to work the next day. Her knowledge has allowed me to regain flexibility, increase my strength and better my diet. Since beginning the program with her 12 weeks ago, I have lost 25 lbs, 4" around my waist while increasing my arms 1.5".”

"In recent years, I've tried many times to develop good exercise habits. I've joined larger clubs, but always felt like I needed more. I often hurt myself or just lost interest.  Working with a trainer at Balance for Life was the best investment I've made in a long time. I found the knowledge, personal attention, and level of professionalism that helped me to reach my goals. I've not only lost weight, but I've gained strength and improved my balance. I feel better than I have in years; I have worked with a personal trainer, Pilate’s trainer and taken Pilates classes. There are so many options at Balance for Life that there is no reason not to succeed here."

Laura K. *

“My trainer at Balance for Life spent time getting to know my goals, capabilities and fitness level, and then designed a personalized program of cardio, weights and Pilates. The studio is small and creates an intimate, non-intimidating environment to focus on good health and fitness improvement. Julie Gronquist, my personal trainer, knows when to push and when to encourage—she keeps my workouts varied and challenging and that keeps me focused. Having the one-on-one attention helped me to build discipline for exercise that didn't come easily. The chemistry between trainer and client is critical to success—and finding the right match was critical for me in my decision of where to workout. BFL is the right solution for me.”

Cecile S. *

“I’ve learned so much from my Pilates trainer and am able to do things I never thought I could do in my individual and group class Pilates Reformer sessions. She has also given me Pilate’s exercises to do at home between our sessions which helped me to internalize what I’m learning. She varies her instructions and coaching in whatever way she needs to help each class participant. Her individualized approach, her passion for the Stott Pilates method, her intelligence and her wit are just a few of the characteristics that make her a wonderful Pilates trainer, and a great addition to the BFL staff.”
